Kathryn Whitehad and Josh Currie have owned Silverking Soya Foods since 2018
Our Story
The Logo:
Silverking Soya Foods was started by Greg and Ellen Lundh in their Kaslo home. They made and delivered their product locally, mainly within their town. Silverking’s packaging showcases the prominent Loki mountain, which can be seen from Kaslo’s downtown, and symbolizes the business’s humble beginnings.
The Name:
In 1990, the Lundh family and their new tofu business relocated to Silverking Rd. in Nelson. They started producing tofu from their garage and delivering it to customers in town. The name "Silverking" was chosen because it was the name of the first street the business was located on in Nelson.
The Growth:
In 1990, a local man named Jeff Mock started working at Silverking Soya Foods. In 1992, Jeff and Greg decided to become co-owners of the business, and Jeff became a partner that year. By 1994, Greg and Ellen were ready to go back to Kaslo, so Jeff became the sole owner of the business and relocated it to the Brewery building on Latimer St. in Nelson. It has been there for the past 29 years!
The Future:
The business changed owners in 2018 when Jeff decided to retire. He sold it to Josh Currie and Kathryn Whitehead, who have been running it ever since. Despite various changes, the business has always stayed committed to offering the highest quality tofu. The current owners aim to run Silverking for a long time and truly believe in the health benefits of their product.
